MY HEART IS ACHING AND BREAKING

Author: Joyce Hemsley

I am only an anguishing damsel,
and my teardrops multiply,
for I fear that when tomorrow comes
across the world you will fly.

You say you love me sweetly,
I accept it ~ with a frown,
because your eyes forever wander
to the "prettiest satin gown".

I have no gold upon my fingers
I am not sure you even care,
The thought is ever lingering
"are your eyes straying elsewhere?"

With promises forsaken,
and the Springtime blossom gone,
my young heart is aching~breaking
but still, I string along.

For I'm only an anguishing damsel
and my teardrops multiply,
and I fear that when tomorrow comes
across the world you will fly.
